Thoughts From A Balcony: The Simple Things…

Dear Strangers of Internet,

Do you ever feel like the world is moving too fast ? To be honest, I do. More often than not. I feel like we forgot how to take our time. In this modern area, we don’t take time to look around us. We’re blinded by the negativity surrounding us, the worries that our everyday life is bringing to us. Between bad news, work or whatever is consuming your mind. We forget to slow down and we don’t enjoy the little things surrounding us.

Except, THIS is Life.

To be laying down on the grass, on top of the mountain you hiked just a few minutes ago. Gazing at the bluest sky you’ve ever seen and watching the clouds moving slowly. One of my favorite auhtors said something that resonnate within me.

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.” – Paulo Coelho

Humor me for one minute. Throw your phone away for a day. Log out of social medias and take time to feel the connection with your body and soul. Take the time to see the true beauty surrounding you. Close your eyes. Do you hear the birds singing or the wind blowing ? Open your eyes. Do you see the kids playing in the playground ? The laughs and smiles around you ? Now, take a deep breath and ask yourself, how does that make you feel ?

I bet you it makes you feel great, right ?

The simple things are what makes me happy the most. When I feel overwhelmed by my day-to-day life, I tend to turn to the things I know are capable to bring me back to the present moment. The simple things helped me the most. The warmth of a cup of coffee. The fresh air I can feel while I’m standing on my balcony. The sounds of my loved ones laughing or the smiles I can see on their faces.

In our quest of happiness, we often forget one important thing. Take time to slow down and turn your mind off for a bit. You’ll realise how freeing it can feel.

This is K, signing off.

  1. Absolutely! We don’t stop long enough to notice the simple things, the ones that used to make us happy. We get so bogged down by the big. ugly. stuff that goes on around us. Our well-being and mental health suffers.
